This volume presents the proceedings of the third International Congress organized in
Lausanne by the harmoniques Foundation and held in April 2006. Musicians, musicologists, instrument makers, restorers and museum curators gathered around the 1777 Vis-à-vis harpsichord-piano by Stein to exchange their ideas about strings and keyboard in the age of Mozart. The incredible richness of colors and shadows in the tone of contemporary instruments is exemplified by articles and a CD registered with pianos from 1773 to 1782. Mozart as portrayed at his keyboard instruments is another important issue of this volume as well as violin-making in Vienna, the string quartet and Mozart’s conception of violin playing.
